Anura Kumara Dissanayake, the presidential candidate of the National People’s Power (NPP), has pledged to completely remove VAT on essential sectors such as food, education, and healthcare.
Speaking at a rally in Akuressa as part of NPP’s presidential campaign, Dissanayake explained his plans to reduce electricity bills and offer financial support of Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 17,500 for struggling families.
He further criticized the current government, stating, “They create governments to divide resources, but we aim to abandon such practices and transform politics into a public service.” Dissanayake assured uninterrupted supplies of fuel, gas, and electricity under an NPP government, dismissing fears of shortages.
