SJB slams EC officials for violating law during counting

SJB MP Patali Champika Ranawaka has accused election officials of violating procedures during the vote counting process in the recent presidential election.

He stated that some officers had gone home prematurely, believing there would be no second preference vote. When it became necessary to count the second preferences, officials had to be recalled from their homes.

Ranawaka also questioned the legality of counting second preference votes in some areas before the official announcement was made. He congratulated the NPP for winning with 42% of the votes but emphasized that 58% of the electorate voted against them.

The SJB is expected to press for further investigation into these violations. (NewsWire)
