On Saturday, September 28th, Imperial College of Business Studies (ICBS) hosted its highly anticipated Freshers’ Eve at Renuka City Hotel, warmly welcoming over one hundred new students who have enrolled in the BA (Hons) International Business & Finance degree programme offered in collaboration with the University of the West of Scotland.
The event commenced with a warm welcome from Mr. Praveen Namasivayam, Head of Student Recruitment & Services, alongside Mr. Ovin Bimsara, Head of Marketing & Senior Lecturer at ICBS. The opening remarks set the stage for an inspiring introduction to university life. Dr. M. Ganeshamoorthy, Academic Dean of ICBS, together with Ms. Shenali Apsara, Manager – University Relations, provided the new cohort with an insightful overview of their academic journey ahead, outlining the opportunities and challenges awaiting them.
A special highlight of the event was the felicitation of one of ICBS’s own undergraduates who recently achieved a significant milestone—earning a bronze medal in the Women’s 100M event at the South Asia Junior Athletic Championship (SAAC). In recognition of her outstanding achievement, she was honored with a plaque and awarded a special scholarship for her degree program, showcasing ICBS’s commitment to recognizing and celebrating the diverse talents of its students.
Following the formal proceedings, the students were led through an engaging icebreaker session facilitated by the ICBS Student Council, headed by Ms. Chanusha Jayawardhana, Head of Student Activities & Placements. This session on offered the new undergraduates an opportunity to get to know their peers, fostering camaraderie and setting a positive tone for their academic journey. Subsequently, the freshers were divided into teams, each accompanied by a senior council member, and participated in various creative and team-building activities designed to cultivate team work and leadership skills. The winning teams were recognized with awards, and all participants enjoyed delicious refreshments to conclude the event. The evening ended on a high note with a group photograph, symbolizing the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the students.
