Health Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayathissa has instructed officials to strengthen regulations on Ayurvedic medicine, beauty products, and raw materials to ensure quality and compliance.
Speaking at the appointment ceremony for the new chairman and members for the Ayurveda Formulary Committee at the National Ayurveda Hospital in Rajagiriya, the minister said there is a need for stricter oversight.
The Minister also spoke of the concerns about health risks and illegal financial activities linked to Ayurvedic beauty products.
“Amending the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA) Act would take time. But many beauty products are manufactured claiming various links Ayurveda. Therefore regulating these products would be a key step in addressing broader issues,” Jayathissa said. (Newswire)
