Leading Sri Lankan scientist Professor Neelika Malavige has been named President-Elect of the International Society for Infectious Diseases (ISID).
The prestigious global organization focuses on advancing research and responses to infectious diseases.
Prof. Malavige will begin her two-year term as president in 2027.
A Professor in the Department of Immunology and Allied Medical Sciences at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Prof. Malavige earned her medical degree from the University of Colombo and her doctorate from the University of Oxford.
She is widely recognized for her significant contributions to infectious disease research, especially her work on COVID-19 testing, sequencing, and strain identification.
Her research has been crucial in understanding the molecular epidemiology of SARS-CoV-2 in Sri Lanka. (Newswire)
