The Department of Wildlife Conservation has reported businessman Priyan Pushpakumara to the Nuwara Eliya Magistrate’s Court for violating national park regulations by feeding wild animals at the Horton Plains National Park.
The incident gained widespread attention after a video, released by Pushpakumara himself, went viral on social media. The footage drew strong criticism from wildlife enthusiasts, who condemned the act as irresponsible and harmful to the natural ecosystem.
Pushpakumara, a resident of Piliyandala, was seen offering food to animals within the protected area—an act strictly prohibited under national park laws.
Wildlife officers attached to the Horton Plains National Park submitted a report to court yesterday (22). Following the submission, the Nuwara Eliya Magistrate ordered Pushpakumara to appear in court on June 11, 2025. (Newswire)
