The Professional Web Journalists Association has raised strong objections to a new requirement imposed by the Government Information Department, which now mandates the government-issued media accreditation to attend post-Cabinet media briefings.
In a statement, the association said the move is a serious restriction on media freedom and infringes on the public’s right to access information.
It warned that such measures undermine democratic values and pose a significant threat to independent journalism.
The association called on the government to immediately withdraw the decision and ensure that all journalists and media outlets can attend post-Cabinet media briefings without obstruction.
It also reaffirmed its commitment to uphold ethical journalism and defend the public’s right to accurate and independent reporting. (Newswire)
