A 63-year-old woman has been arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport for attempting to smuggle gold items, laptops, and mobile phones into the country without paying customs duties.
The arrest was made on May 1 by officers of the airport police station following a tip-off. The seized items included 23 gold necklaces, a gold piece, 3 bangles, a bracelet, 6 laptops, and 11 mobile phones.
The suspect, a resident of Mattegoda, is currently being questioned as airport police continue investigations (Newswire)
