The Ministry of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Training has decided to appoint dedicated officers to every state university to assist students who face ragging-related incidents.
Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Dr. Madura Seneviratne, said the officers will be appointed under the purview of each university’s governing council and will be tasked with providing immediate support and guidance to affected students.
To discuss the implementation of this initiative, the ministry has summoned all Vice Chancellors of state universities to Colombo for a special meeting. The discussion will be chaired by Minister of Education and Prime Minister, Dr. Harini Amarasuriya.
Deputy Minister Seneviratne also commented on the ongoing investigation into the recent death of a second-year student from the Faculty of Technology at Sabaragamuwa University, confirming that further clarifications on the probe will be provided during the meeting. (Newswire)
