Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath says there are capable and community-focused individuals among independent groups and opposition party candidates who were elected in the recent local government elections.
Responding to a question about councils where the NPP emerged as the leading party but lacks an outright majority, Herath said discussions are ongoing to form alliances with such individuals to secure control.
He made the remarks while speaking to the media. There are over 100 local councils where the NPP will need the support of members from other parties or independent groups to establish administrations. (Newswire)
