The funeral of the mother and father seen in the widely shared video from the Kotmale bus tragedy—where the mother shielded her baby amid the wreck—was held today in Bandarawela, drawing a large gathering of mourners from the local community.
According to Deputy Education Minister, the 9-month-old infant is receiving treatment at Nuwara Eliya Hospital and is in stable condition, with only minor bruises.
He said the government, along with private contributors, has initiated a program to support the baby and other children who lost parents in the accident.
Meanwhile, the death toll from the crash has risen to 23. Police have launched an official investigation, and DIG Ajith Rohana stated that a detailed inquiry is underway to determine the cause of the incident. (Newswire)
