Acting Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasuriya has appointed a special committee to investigate the fatal bus accident that occurred in the Gerandi Ella area of Kotmale in the early hours of May 11.
The committee will be headed by Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police Ajith Rohana and will include four other senior police officers. According to the Police Headquarters, the committee has been tasked with conducting a comprehensive probe into the causes of the accident.
The investigation is expected to examine several key areas related to the tragedy and will also recommend preventive measures to avoid similar incidents in the future.
The move comes in response to growing concerns over the rising number of fatal road accidents in Sri Lanka. The Kotmale crash claimed the lives of 22 individuals and left many others injured. (Newswire)
