Sri Lanka reaffirms commitment at UN Peacekeeping Ministerial

Sri Lanka reaffirmed its commitment to advancing global peace and security through principled and accountable engagement, at the 2025 UN Peacekeeping Ministerial in Berlin, Germany.

Addressing the event, Sri Lanka’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Arun Hemachandra, said the new government has undertaken a comprehensive reform process aimed at strengthening professionalism, transparency, and the protection of human dignity, particularly within the security and defence sectors. 

The Deputy Minister further said that these efforts are a reflection of Sri Lanka’s readiness to meet evolving global challenges while upholding the highest standards of human rights and integrity.

“Sri Lanka is committed to contributing more meaningfully to global peace efforts. We stand ready to take on greater responsibilities in support of United Nations peacekeeping and peacebuilding missions. We, therefore, call on the United Nations to consider Sri Lanka a trusted and capable partner in advancing the shared objectives of effective, responsive, and resilient peacekeeping,” he added.

The following are the pledges made by Sri Lanka at the 2025 UN Peacekeeping Ministerial in Berlin;

  • Uniformed Capabilities: One Engineer Construction Company, and one Quick Reaction Force Company 
  • Peacekeeping Training, Capacity Building, and Partnerships: Provide Military Mobile Training Teams, through the Light Coordination Mechanism (LCM), on Buddy First Aid, Convoy Operations, Close Air Support/Vertical Troop Insertion, and Weapons Training; 
  • Provide training facilities for the Triangular Partnership Programme (TPP) Conduct: Deploy Conduct and Discipline officers 
  • Environment: Deploy military environmental management officers. (Newswire)
