The Department of Meteorology has issued an advisory for heavy rains in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Northern provinces and the Galle, Matara, Nuwara-Eliya, Kandy and Puttalam districts today.
Per the advisory, effective until 02.00 pm tomorrow, amber alerts have been issued to 10 districts and red alerts to 15 districts.
The Met Department states that the South-West monsoon conditions are gradually establishing over Sri Lanka and that, due to its impact, showery conditions are expected to increase in the southwestern parts of the island over the next few days, starting today.
As such, heavy falls above 100 mm are likely at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Northern provinces and the Galle, Matara, Nuwara-Eliya, Kandy and Puttalam districts. (Newswire)
