Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa says the war was fought to secure peace in the country, not to capture anyone.
He made the remarks while attending the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna’s (SLPP) War Heroes’ Day commemoration held near the War Memorial in Battaramulla today (20).
The event was also attended by former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
Speaking at the gathering, Mahinda Rajapaksa said his attendance was a matter of duty.
“We came here today to fulfil a duty. Yes, we fought the war for peace, not to capture or oppress anyone. We fought to save the country,” the former President said. (Newswire)
