Former Agriculture Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage, who was remanded over the importation of an allegedly substandard consignment of organic fertilizer from a Chinese company in 2021, has been granted bail.
The Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court released Mahindananda Aluthgamage after he was produced in court by prison officials today.
On 20 May, Mahindananda Aluthgamage surrendered to court after Chief Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali had issued an arrest warrant against him on 16 May, based on a request made by the Bribery Commission.
The Bribery Commission alleged that the former minister was involved in facilitating the entry of a ship carrying substandard fertilizer in 2021, despite quality concerns. (Newswire)
