A series of fatal road accidents were reported across the country on Monday (26 May), resulting in multiple deaths and serious injuries.
In Kegalle, a 53-year-old motorcyclist died after a boom truck lost control and collided with his parked motorcycle. His injured daughter has been hospitalised, while the driver of the truck has been arrested.
In Valachchenai, an 85-year-old pedestrian succumbed to injuries after being brought to the hospital by an unidentified individual. Investigations revealed he had sustained injuries after having been hit by an unknown vehicle.
In Matale, a 60-year-old three-wheeler driver died following a head-on collision with a car in Ukuwela. Police say the accident occurred due to the three-wheeler driver losing control of the vehicle. The driver of the car has been arrested in connection with the accident.
In Kekirawa, a 49-year-old tractor driver died after his vehicle was hit by a bus travelling from Kandy to Anuradhapura. The bus driver has been arrested over the accident.
Meanwhile, in Kanagarayankulam, a 22-year-old man has died after drowning while fishing in a reservoir with friends last evening.
Investigations have been launched into the respective incidents, with several drivers taken into custody pending further legal action. (Newswire)
