In a landmark achievement for Sri Lankan shooting sports, 13-year-old Kael Liyanage clinched the bronze medal in the Super Junior category at the 2025 IPSC PCC & Mini Rifle World Shoot, held from May 12 to 25 in Znojmo, Czech Republic. This marks Sri Lanka’s first individual medal at a World Championship in practical shooting. 
Kael represented the Sri Lanka PCC team alongside teammates Daniel Kao and Sandil Kottegoda. The trio competed against over 1000 elite shooters from more than 60 countries, showcasing their skills in the Pistol Caliber Carbine (PCC) division. 
The competition spanned two renowned shooting ranges—Hodonice and Oblekovice—testing participants across 24 challenging stages. Kael’s exceptional performance in the Super Junior category not only earned him a podium finish but also set a new benchmark for shooters in Sri Lanka.
