The Police Illegal Property or Assets Investigation Division has confiscated assets worth approximately Rs. 100 million belonging to J.A. Jayasinghe alias ‘Bathala Heenmahattaya’, a resident of Embilipitiya, whom security forces suspect to be Sri Lanka’s largest cannabis trafficker.
The properties seized yesterday include a two-story building with a pharmacy located opposite the Embilipitiya General Hospital and a hotel located opposite the Chandrika Wewa.
Investigations have found that these properties were purchased in the name of the suspect’s wife, while they have been unable to disclose how they obtained the money to purchase them.
Accordingly, the relevant properties have been seized for 7 days. The suspect arrested in connection with them is due to be produced before the Wellawaya Court today. (Newswire)
