Former Ministers sentenced in high-profile corruption case

Former Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage and ex-Trade Minister Nalin Fernando have been sentenced to 20 and 25 years of rigorous imprisonment, respectively. The Colombo Permanent High Court Trial-at-Bar found them guilty of misusing Rs. 53 million in public funds to procure 14,000 carrom boards and 11,000 checkerboards, allegedly for electoral gain during the 2015 presidential campaign

Duminda Dissanayake remanded over gold-plated rifle

Former Agriculture Minister Duminda Dissanayake has been remanded until June 5 in connection with the discovery of a gold-plated T-56 assault rifle at a Havelock Town apartment. Galle Marvels owner receives suspended sentence for match-fixing attempt

New hours announced for one-day passport service
