128 GB pen drive bribe leads to arrest of Jaffna official

A Grama Niladhari Officer attached to the Jaffna Divisional Secretariat has been arrested on allegations of soliciting a bribe.

According to the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC), the official had allegedly demanded a 128GB pen drive worth Rs. 4,000 as a bribe to sign an application submitted by a resident.

The application was for permission to cut and remove three coconut trees from private land.

The arrest took place at around 11:27 am today (30 May) at the Grama Niladhari officer’s office. The suspect is expected to be produced before the Jaffna Magistrate’s Court. (Newswire)
