The Ministry of Transport and Highways has announced that construction work on the Kadawatha Interchange and the first section of the Central Expressway will begin soon.
Making the announcement via a statement on social media, the ministry, however, did not provide a timeline for the commencement of construction.
In March this year, it was reported that there were delays in restarting the construction of the first phase of the Central Expressway, which is the section from Kadawatha to Mirigama, due to delays in finalising financial matters.
At the time, Minister of Transport Bimal Rathnayake said that the government was awaiting a response from China regarding the issue.
The first phase of the Central Expressway is 37 kilometres in length, while construction on more than 20% of the section has already been completed. (Newswire)
