Sri Lanka Police have arrested five individuals in separate heroin raids conducted across multiple areas on May 31, seizing over 3.6 kilograms of the illegal drug.
The largest bust was carried out in Punchi Naiwala Watta, Veyangoda, where police arrested a 26-year-old suspect with 3.655kg of heroin. A van and weighing equipment used for drug trafficking were also seized during the operation.
In other incidents:
* In Grandpass, a 32-year-old suspect from Orugodawatta was arrested with 11.7g of heroin.
* In Dehiwala’s Badowita area, a 31-year-old resident of Ratmalana was taken into custody with 5.5g of heroin.
* In North Pitipana, Dungalpitiya, a 38-year-old suspect was found with 5.225g of heroin.
All suspects are in police custody as further investigations continue.
Police say the operations are part of an ongoing anti-narcotics campaign carried out islandwide under the directives of the Acting Inspector General of Police.
