The Uva Provincial Indoor Sports Complex in Bandarawela, constructed at a cost of Rs. 300 million, was officially declared open on Saturday (June 1).
The inauguration ceremony was held under the patronage of Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Sunil Kumara Gamage and Deputy Minister of Tourism Ruwan Ranasinghe.
Developed by the Department of Sports Development with full state support, the complex spans approximately 1,188 square meters and is aimed at enhancing the skills of athletes in the Uva Province.
In parallel to the opening, cricket equipment kits valued at Rs. 300,000 each were distributed to 14 selected schools in the Badulla District under the ministry’s cricket development initiative.
A demonstration netball match was also held as part of the event. The event was attended by MP Ravindra Bandara, Director General of the Department of Sports Development Shemal Fernando, provincial sports directors, district sports officers, and local council secretaries. (Newswire)
