The Cabinet has approved the importation of standardized maize required for the production of Thriposha, a nutritional supplement distributed to pregnant and lactating mothers, and malnourished children under five.

Due to difficulties in sourcing adequate maize locally, the proposal to issue an import license to Sri Lanka Thriposha Limited was submitted by Minister of Health and Mass Media Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa and received Cabinet approval.

Sri Lanka Thriposha Limited requires 18,000 metric tons of maize annually, with a monthly need of 1,500 metric tons. Maize and soy beans are the primary raw materials used in manufacturing Thriposha. (Newswire)
