Opposition MP Dayasiri Jayasekara today apologized for his earlier claim that a BMW belonging to the North Central Provincial Council was sold for under Rs. 5 million, admitting the information he relied on was incorrect.
Speaking to the media, Jayasekara said he was misled by inaccurate reports published in newspapers and that, as a responsible politician, he is committed to correcting the record.
“I accept the mistake and am taking steps to correct it,” he stated, adding that he has requested media outlets that carried the original statement to update it with accurate information.
The North Central Provincial Council had earlier clarified that the BMW was sold for Rs. 21.8 million, not below Rs. 5 million as previously alleged.
The Council has also stated that the overall vehicle tender process generated Rs. 124 million and was conducted transparently. (Newswire)
