The first shipment of imported coconut milk has arrived in Sri Lanka under the Government’s raw material importation initiative aimed at supporting coconut-based industries. The consignment, which includes frozen coconut milk, coconut milk powder, and chunked coconut with testa, is equivalent to 200 million coconuts.
The stock is set to undergo customs clearance and laboratory testing.
Approved by the Cabinet based on a joint proposal from the Ministries of Plantations and Industries, the programme is intended to ease raw material shortages in the coconut milk powder industry, reduce domestic coconut prices, and support local manufacturers. (Newswire)
