The Cabinet has approved a proposal to call for expressions of interest for the disposal of land at the historic Bogambara Prison site in Kandy on a 50-year lease basis.
The move is part of a broader plan to promote cultural and tourism-based development in the area.
The site, located within the utility service zone of the Kandy Municipal Council Area, has been designated under the World Heritage Building Conservation initiative due to its cultural significance. The land, now under the Urban Development Authority, is included in the 2021–2030 development plan for Kandy.
According to the Cabinet-approved proposal by the Minister of Urban Development, Construction and Housing, the government aims to attract development projects that offer financial, environmental, and social value, aligned with the UDA’s basic plan. (Newswire)
