The establishment of a Metro Bus Unit as a subsidiary of the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB), aimed at modernising urban public transportation has received Cabinet approval.
As proposed in the 2025 budget, the initiative will launch a pilot project deploying 100 high-tech, low-entry buses along major road corridors, including Colombo, Kottawa, Kaduwela, Kadawatha, and Moratuwa.
These buses are intended to offer a more comfortable and efficient transport option for daily commuters.
The new unit will be set up under the Companies Act No. 7 of 2007 and will function as a subsidiary of the SLTB. The proposal was presented by the Minister of Transport, Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation. (Newswire)
