Sri Lanka Army troops have managed to contain fires that had broken out in two forest areas on Tuesday.
According to the Sri Lanka Army, a fire had broken out at the Pihimbiyagolla forest reserve in the Kuragala, Kalthota area in Balangoda on Tuesday.
The fire had erupted around 03.00 pm and troops of the 18th Battalion, National Guard, under the 61st Infantry Division, had completely extinguished the fire by around 7.30 pm.
This operation was supported by officers from the Department of Forest Conservation and the Department of Civil Defence.
Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Army troops had also worked to contain a forest fire that broke out near the Dowa Temple in Bandarawela at 06.30 pm yesterday.
The fire had been extinguished by troops from the 11th Infantry Division, together with the support of the troops of the 23rd Battalion Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, by 10.00 pm. (Newswire)
