A supermarket in the Kalawana area has been fined Rs. 500,000 by the Kalawana Magistrate’s Court for selling a 500ml bottle of drinking water at Rs. 80, exceeding the maximum retail price of Rs. 70.
The fine was imposed after the supermarket pleaded guilty to the charge.
The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has urged the public to report such overpricing incidents and reaffirmed its commitment to protecting consumer rights across Sri Lanka.
