Top official arrested over Rajapaksa-era Rs. 27 million opening ceremony

Former Sri Lanka Land Reclamation and Development Corporation (SLLRDC) General Manager M.R. Srimathi Mallika Kumari Senadheera has been arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption. The arrest relates to the Werassa Ganga Project, where Senadheera is accused of spending Rs. 27.6 million from project funds on an inauguration event.

Archchuna claims Prabhakaran’s weapons brought to Sri Lanka in containers

MP Archchuna Ramanathan alleged in Parliament that 323 containers cleared without inspection contained weapons once owned by late LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran. He claimed these arms were originally left in Thailand and brought to Sri Lanka via Kumaran Pathmanathan (KP), although he cannot provide evidence.

Minister reveals lease cost of newly acquired aircraft

Civil Aviation Minister Bimal Rathnayake disclosed that Sri Lanka is paying USD 800,000 monthly for aircraft never delivered due to fraudulent deals under previous governments. In contrast, the newly leased Airbus A330-200 from France costs USD 275,000 per month.

Trade Minister warns importers over salt price hikes

Trade Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe warned importers against excessive pricing of imported salt, which costs Rs. 77–80 per kilogram including taxes. He cautioned that selling it at inflated prices, such as Rs. 250 per kilogram, could lead to the imposition of a Maximum Retail Price (MRP).

Sachithra Senanayake, first cricketer indicted under new match-fixing law

Former Sri Lankan cricketer Sachithra Senanayake has been indicted under the Prevention of Offences Related to Sports Act No. 24 of 2019, becoming the first cricketer charged under this law.  If convicted, Senanayake faces up to 10 years in prison, a fine of up to Rs. 100 million, or both.
