A businessman who displayed expired medicines for sale at a pharmacy in the Kawdana area of Dehiwala has been sentenced to six months’ imprisonment, suspended for 10 years, and fined Rs. 10,000.
The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) discovered the expired stock during a raid conducted on February 7, 2025. Following an investigation, legal action was initiated, and the case was taken up at the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court on May 30.
The businessman pleaded guilty to the offence, and the court issued the suspended sentence in addition to the monetary fine.
The CAA urged businesses to comply with consumer protection regulations and warned of continued enforcement actions across the island. (Newswire)
