Commissioner General of Prisons Thushara Upuldeniya, who was earlier suspended and sent on compulsory leave, has been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Police confirmed today.
The arrest follows a Cabinet decision chaired by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to remove Upuldeniya from duties pending investigation into the alleged illegal release of a prisoner under a Presidential pardon.
The move comes amid ongoing inquiries into irregularities surrounding the Vesak pardon, with multiple officials now under scrutiny. (Newswire)
