Sri Lanka Police have deployed round-the-clock security at Chabad Centres across the country in response to potential security threats.

In a statement, the Police Media Division said the decision was made considering the security needs of the Chabad Houses, which provide accommodation and other services to Israeli nationals.

Police added that security measures would be extended to any foreign national in Sri Lanka deemed to be under threat, following a formal threat assessment.

The announcement follows a silent protest outside a Chabad House in Colombo on Monday evening, during which a small group of demonstrators was dispersed by Police.

Protesters called on the Sri Lankan government to take action against Israeli nationals allegedly overstaying visas and engaging in unauthorized business activities in tourist areas, claiming such actions were negatively impacting local communities. Some protesters also carried placards expressing support for Palestine. (Newswire)
