Parliament to convene for four days next week

The Parliament of Sri Lanka is scheduled to convene for four days next week, from 17-20 June 2025.

According to a Parliament statement, this decision was made at the meeting of the Committee on Parliamentary Business held last week, chaired by Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne.

On each sitting day of Parliament, the time from 9.30 am to 10.00 am has been allocated for the Business of Parliament as per Standing Order 22(1) to (6) of the Parliament. 

The time from 10.00 am to 11.00 am has been allocated for Questions for Oral Answers, and from 11.00 am to 11.30 am for Questions under Standing Order 27(2) of the Parliament. 

The Parliament schedule for next week is as follows;

  • Tuesday (17 June):

From 11.30 am to 5.00 pm, the Order under the Convention Against Doping in Sports Act published in the Gazette Extraordinary No. 2430/24 is scheduled to be taken up for debate for the purpose of being passed in Parliament. Thereafter, from 5.00 pm to 5.30 pm, time has been allocated for Questions at the Adjournment Time.

  • Wednesday (18 June):

From 11.30 am to 5.00 pm, the Orders under the Reciprocal Recognition, Registration and Enforcement of Foreign Judgements Act published in Gazette Extraordinary No. 2429/51 are scheduled to be taken up for debate for the purpose of being passed in Parliament. Thereafter, from 5.00 pm to 5.30 pm, time has been allocated for the Motion at the Adjournment Time by the Opposition.

  • Thursday (19 June):

From 11.30 am to 5.30 pm, the Adjournment Debate by the Government is scheduled to be held on the Special Audit Report on Advance Payments for the Import of 15,000 Dairy Cattle under Step II of the Phase III of the Project, which was presented to Parliament on 21.05.2025, and the Second Report of the Committee on Public Enterprises for the First Session of the Tenth Parliament, which was presented to Parliament on 04.06.2025.

  • Friday (20 June):

From 11.30 am to 5.00 pm, it has been decided to take up for debate the Order under the Stamp Duty (Special Provisions) Act published in Gazette Extraordinary No. 2429/39 and two Regulations under the Imports and Exports (Control) Act published in Gazette Extraordinary Nos. 2434/12 and 2435/02 for the purpose of being passed in Parliament. Thereafter, from 5.00 pm to 5.30 pm, the Motion at the Adjournment Time by the Government is scheduled to be taken up for debate.

  • Bill to be taken up for debate:

The Committee also agreed to take up the Second Reading of the National Minimum Wage of Workers (Amendment), Budgetary Relief Allowance of Workers (Amendment), and Budgetary Relief Allowance of Workers (Amendment), which were presented to Parliament on 03 June. The Bills will be taken up for debate on 20 June from 11.30 am to 5.00 pm, in addition to the already scheduled Business, in the event no petitions are filed in the Supreme Court in terms of Article 121 of the Constitution against the said Bills.
