Issuing a statement, Deputy Health Minister Dr. Hansaka Wijemuni addressed recent media reports regarding drug shortages in government hospitals.
He clarified that there is no shortage of regular medicines, such as those prescribed for high blood pressure and diabetes.
However, he acknowledged certain disruptions in the supply chain affecting some medications, and noted that steps have been taken to address the issue.
Dr. Wijemuni further stated that this is not a recent problem, but one that has persisted for several years. He confirmed that measures are underway to fully resolve the drug shortages by 2026.
He also urged opposition politicians not to use the situation as a platform for media publicity, assuring the public that the government is taking all necessary steps to address the issue. (NewsWire)
