A 17–17 deadlock in the Dehiowita Pradeshiya Sabha chairman vote ended in favour of the National People’s Power (NPP), with Samanasiri Weerasinghe drawing the winning lot to clinch the top post.
He faced off against Damidu Shaminda of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), with both candidates receiving equal support. With no clear winner, a draw of lots was held as per procedure.
This is the second such win for the NPP in recent days, following a similar outcome at the Madagama Pradeshiya Sabha last week—adding another unexpected victory to their local government gains. (Newswire)
