The Sri Lanka Railway Guards Association says it will launch a 48-hour trade union action this week based on long-standing unresolved administrative issues.

The association stated that the relevant authorities have been informed of the issues.

As such, the association said it will launch a symbolic strike from midnight on Friday, the 20th of June.

Issuing a statement, the association outlined the following reasons for the trade union action;

  • Delays in recruitment for the District Transport Inspector (Transport/Commercial) position
  • Delays in granting promotions in the Special Regulatory Class
  • Unresolved salary issues in the Special Regulatory Class
  • Delays in conducting departmental investigations
  • Delays in granting efficiency bar concessions
  • Failure to appoint employees to certain offices
  • Pending requests related to welfare activities
  • Seeking approval to implement the promotion system used for the Sri Lanka Technological Service in the Regulatory position
  • Requesting another opportunity to apply for the Sri Lanka Administrative Service. (Newswire)
