Tilvin led JVP delegation meets Chinese FM in Beijing

A delegation from the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), led by General Secretary Tilvin Silva, has met with Chinese Foreign Minister Liu Jianchao during an official visit to China. The visit was undertaken on the invitation of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

The meeting took place at the CPC’s International Department Headquarters in Beijing, with the participation of several high-ranking Chinese officials, including China’s Vice Foreign Minister Sun Haiyan.

Chinese Foreign Minister Liu Jianchao reaffirmed the long-standing friendship between the Communist Party of China and the JVP, stating that it is a bond that cannot be broken or undermined. He also reiterated China’s readiness to support Sri Lanka’s development while respecting the country’s sovereignty, adding that China does not engage in actions that threaten the independence of other nations.

JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva noted that the relationship between the JVP and the CPC had grown significantly during the earlier visit by JVP Leader and President Anura Kumara Dissanayake. He emphasized that this current visit will further strengthen ties between the two parties and the two nations.

He expressed appreciation for China’s continued support to Sri Lanka and stated that the JVP values the mutual understanding that has evolved between the countries. Silva also shared the delegation’s positive impressions of China’s development journey from the era of Chairman Mao Zedong to President Xi Jinping, acknowledging the CPC’s unique advancement of Marxist principles.

During the visit, the delegation observed several development initiatives, including party schools and rural upliftment programmes, which Silva said could offer valuable insights for Sri Lanka’s future development strategies.

Other members of the JVP delegation included Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs Eranga Gunasekara, Deputy Minister of National Unity Muneer Mulafer, Jaffna District MP A.M. Jeyadeeswaran, Matale District MP Deepti Wasalathilake, and Gampaha District MP Dharmapriya Wijesinghe. (Newswire)
