The National Dengue Control Unit says that a mosquito control week will be implemented in 16 districts from the 30th of June to the 5th of July.

Public Medical Consultant of the National Dengue Control Unit, Prashila Samaraweera, said that the density of mosquitoes has increased with the prevailing southwest monsoon rainfall conditions.

Addressing the media yesterday, Prashila Samaraweera said that 14 dengue-related deaths and 26,775 dengue patients have been reported in Sri Lanka so far this year.

She further revealed that the majority of dengue patients were reported from the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern and Eastern provinces.

Prashila Samaraweera said that, as such, it has been planned to implement the mosquito control week to contain the spread of dengue.

“A mosquito control week is being implemented again in 111 health departments in 16 districts. Our teams will come to identify and eliminate dengue mosquito breeding sites in high-risk areas. If you carelessly maintain mosquito breeding grounds, we expect to issue red notices and take legal action,” she added. (Newswire)
