The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) has established power in the Welivitiya Divithura Pradeshiya Sabha.
SLPP’s Poddiwala Marage Wasantha was elected Chairman, and the Samagi Jana Balawegaya’s (SJB) Thusitha Chamara was elected Vice Chairman.
The National People’s Power (NPP) has secured 07 seats, while the remaining 08 seats were secured by the opposition parties in the 15-member council, following the 2025 Local Government Election.
As no party had secured a majority, the council was forced to hold an election yesterday to elect its Chairman and Vice Chairman.
During the vote, the SLPP candidate secured 08 votes and the SJB candidate 07 votes. (Newswire)
