Over 73,000 vehicles registered since removal of import restrictions

Over 73,000 vehicles have been registered in Sri Lanka since import restrictions were lifted in January 2024, according to the Department of Motor Traffic. The figure includes vehicles registered up to May 2025.

UK MP Urges full probe into Chemmani mass grave

Singapore firm to halt $8M mattress factory in Sri Lanka, blames BOI

A Singapore-based company, Honour Global Industries, has decided to shut down its US$8 million foam mattress manufacturing plant in Sri Lanka, citing obstruction by the Board of Investment (BOI). The company claims the BOI imposed export restrictions and delayed approvals, resulting in a six-month production halt and monthly losses of US$300,000. Nearly 500 jobs are at risk.

CSE slips for fifth consecutive day, ASPI falls 253 points

The Colombo Stock Exchange extended its losing streak to a fifth day on June 19, with the All Share Price Index (ASPI) dropping 253.23 points (1.48%) to close at 16,818.21. The day’s turnover stood at Rs. 3.3 billion. The decline follows a 210.51-point drop recorded the previous day.
