The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) today arrested two daughters and the son-in-law of former minister Keheliya Rambukwella on money laundering charges.
Chamithri Rambukwella, Amali Rambukwella, and Amali’s husband, Isuru Pulasthi Bandara Polgasdeniya, were taken into custody after providing statements to the Bribery Commission regarding an ongoing investigation into their assets.
Authorities are examining assets exceeding Rs. 134 million, including houses valued at Rs. 40 million and a Mercedes-Benz worth Rs. 20 million. Additionally, approximately 40 bank and insurance accounts linked to the investigation have been frozen.
Former minister Rambukwella, his wife Kusum Priyadarshini Epa and his daughter Chandula Rambukwella were also arrested yesterday and later remanded for failing to meet bail conditions.
Colombo Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali had ordered their release on Rs. 50,000 cash bail each and three sureties of Rs. 5 million per person. However, they were remanded after being unable to fulfill those requirements. (Newswire)
