Two police sergeants attached to the Ampara Divisional Crime Investigation Unit have been arrested by the Bribery Commission today (21) on charges of soliciting and accepting a bribe.
The officers are accused of demanding Rs. 25,000 from an individual involved in a sand transport business. The bribe was allegedly requested to allow the business to continue without legal interference and to overlook regulatory violations.
Following a complaint, the Bribery Commission conducted an investigation and apprehended the two officers on allegations of soliciting, accepting a bribe, and aiding and abetting in the act.
The arrested suspects are expected to be produced before court. (Newswire)
