Suspended Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon told a parliamentary committee today that he remained at his Giriulla residence during the period police were searching for him following a court order for his arrest.

Testifying before the committee, Tennakoon said he lived alone at the house, without switching on the lights, claiming the power supply was not functioning and he used candles instead. He also alleged that police had been looking for him in the wrong locations.

Responding to allegations linking him to the shooting incident at the W15 Hotel in Weligama, Matara, Tennakoon denied any involvement and said the claims were politically motivated.

The three-member inquiry committee, chaired by Supreme Court Justice Preethi Padman Surasena, is investigating allegations of misconduct and abuse of office. (Newswire)
