The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) has requested urgent intervention from the Ministry of Health to issue clear guidelines on prescribing medications and consumables that are unavailable in government hospitals.
In a letter addressed to Health Secretary Dr. Anil Jasinghe, the GMOA raised concerns over recent allegations against doctors who issue outside prescriptions for essential drugs and items that are out of stock, particularly during critical patient situations.
The GMOA noted that in the absence of proper guidance, doctors acting in good faith are at risk of disciplinary inquiries or legal action.
The union emphasized the need for immediate instructions to protect medical professionals and ensure the continued delivery of patient care. (Newswire)
