Muslim civil society leaders have expressed their gratitude to the Sri Lankan Government for the successful facilitation of this year’s Hajj pilgrimage, which they described as one of the smoothest in recent history.
According to a statement issued by Minister Vijitha Herath, The appreciation was conveyed during a meeting held yesterday (25) between Muslim civil society representatives and government officials. Around 40 civil society leaders, including religious scholars, legal professionals, university students, trade union representatives, and businesspersons, took part in the discussion.
The meeting also addressed several issues faced by the Muslim community, including the reopening of religious sites, challenges in clearing Quran imports at ports, difficulties faced by Muslim nursing students, Arabic school curricula, and delays in death registration. Concerns were also raised regarding the sharing of information about burials conducted during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Government representatives assured that steps will be taken through relevant ministries to resolve these concerns and to ensure next year’s Hajj pilgrimage is affordable for the average family. (Newswire)
