Several Government MPs, led by Minister Samantha Vidyaratna, participated in the construction of a housing scheme in the Loonagala area on Saturday (28).

This program was held to launch a housing construction project for 50 families who have been living in camps for over two years, after being displaced by a landslide in the Kabaragala area of Haldummulla.

“There are no MP or Minister posts today—we’re here to do mason work,” he said, addressing the media at the construction site.

He further stated, “The upcountry community, with a history of over 200 years, has worked tirelessly to bring in foreign currency earnings to the country, yet they have been denied their basic right to own land.”

The minister added that, in line with the historic commitment made by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake in Hatton before he assumed office, the government is now working to provide proper housing facilities for the upcountry community (NewsWire)
