The government has opened its third state-owned Osusala outlet in Narahenpita under the current administration, with the aim of expanding access to quality and affordable medicine.
Health Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said this is part of a broader plan to establish Osusala branches near 130 secondary and tertiary hospitals and major private hospitals across the country. The outlet in Narahenpita marks the 65th branch of the State Pharmaceuticals Corporation (SPC).
Health Minister Nalinda Jayatissa says the government is expanding the Osusala network to address gaps in drug distribution and prevent future shortages.
The SPC, which had only 68 tenders in 2024, has already issued 268 tenders in the first five months of this year, significantly improving procurement efficiency. Upcoming outlets are planned in Batticaloa, Kegalle, Trincomalee, and Puttalam. (Newswire)
